Pune to Mumbai

Domestic airlines

Indian Airlines and Jet Airways provide daily flights from Pune to Mumbai. Flights arrive at the Domestic Airport in Santa Cruz. Travel time is approximately forty minutes. Flights are crowded. You should make reservations and purchase your ticket four or more days in advance.

Pune-Mumbai taxi

This taxi service is available for the return trip from Pune to Mumbai, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Travel time is up to nine hours. Again, because of the steep and winding roads through the mountains, this is the least safe and comfortable alternative available. In Pune the taxi stand is located just outside the railway station. Reservations are not necessary. Usually you need only wait 15-30 minutes for a taxi to fill up and leave. The taxi arrives in the Dadar area of Mumbai at the post office, located near the Pritam Hotel. It may be possible to pay the driver extra to take you to the airport.

A number of Indian Railway trains leave Pune daily for Mumbai. Reservations are not necessary for first class, except on the popular Deccan Queen, Deccan Express and Indrayani Express.

Trains arrive both in Dadar and at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station in the Fort area. Though slightly further from the airport, V. T. is recommended as it is much easier to arrange for a taxi at the police-controlled taxi rank outside Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station.

Make reservations four days in advance for the express trains. Travel time is four to six hours.
