The Indian railway is an inexpensive way to travel directly to Ahmednagar. Travel time is ten to twelve hours. Trains leave Chatrapathi Shivaji railway station in the Fort area twice a day, and sleeping berths are available. Women, however, should not travel alone on the evening Calcutta Mail. Be sure to purchase both a ticket and a seat reservation. As only second class is available on this train, it is not recommended if you are new to India or have a great deal of luggage.
